Knights Athletic Weekly Wrap-up

 Crump and McGrath Finish 1st and 2nd in Meet

Nick Crump placed 1st and Sam McGrath finished 2nd in the Vaughn’s Gap Cross Country Meet last Tuesday. Overall, both the men’s and women’s teams placed 2nd in the meet out of 11 teams. Clara Earley placed 2nd in the women’s competition while Ellie Hemmelgran finished 4th.

Lady Knights Soccer Picks Up Two Regional Wins

Ava Priest and Angela Steidl turned on offensively as the Lady Knights defeated both Lipscomb, 3-0, and St. Cecilia, 7-0 in the same week. Priest scored two goals and Nina Mertens scored one in the win over Lipscomb. Priest picked up two more goals while Angela Steidl completed a hat trick (3 goals) in the win over St. Cecilia. Katie Whiting and Lauren Cameron also picked up goals against Lipscomb.

Volleyball Team Beats Brentwood Academy

For the first time since the 2015-16 season, the Lady Knights volleyball team defeated a regional opponent, Brentwood Academy in three sets, 25-17, 25-14, and 25-20. Lillie Van Metre led the Lady Knights with 13 kills, while Emily Chronister recorded 43 assists. Callie Goodwin tallied 22 digs for the week. Later in the week, the Lady Knights fell to Father Ryan.

Football Team Falls In Close Contest With Baylor

The Knights football team came up short on the final play as they fell to Baylor, 15-22. With 3:53 left in the game, the Knights tied the game with a TD and a 2-point conversion. Unfortunately, the defense failed to stop the Raiders from scoring leaving little time on the clock for the Knights to travel the length of the field and score.  The Knights tallied 330 yards of offense with 199 yards in the air and 131 yards rushing.   Ben Nixon completed 15 of 27 passes. Antwan Roberts recorded five receptions for 107 yards. Defensively, Brooks Heagarty, Christian Underhill, and Tim Lark each tallied 3 solo tackles.

Golf Teams Split Against Davidson

The JPII golf teams split scramble matches 2-2 against Davidson last Tuesday. Mason Wettengel and Matthew Mesecher won their match as did Ali McCarthy and Emilie Williams. Earlier in the week, the Lady Knights fell to Harpeth Hall, 94-77. Ali McCarthy shot a 45, while Emilie Williams shot a 49.
