About JPII

Dear JPII Community,

Thank you to faculty and student volunteers for hosting a successful Open House on Sunday. We had an impressive turnout, and the feedback from prospective families is positive and has sparked a flurry of applications. If you know families interested in JPII for the fall, have them contact our Admissions office.

Congratulations to the Cross Country team for competing in the state tournament on Saturday. The boys team finished 10th out of 14 teams, and the girls team finished 10th out of 16 teams. Cordelia Burks finished the season with an impressive time, earning her 8th place overall.

Monday is Veterans Day, and we will honor our veterans and recognize our students whose parents have served or are serving in the military. We are blessed to live in a country where we enjoy the gift of freedom. Let us not take for granted the gift of freedom and those who defend it, for they deserve our highest gratitude. Thank you, veterans and families, for your service.

As we near Thanksgiving break, please make note that Monday, November 25th, is not a late start day. Since it is only a two-day week, classes on Monday will begin at 7:55 a.m.

Our annual Grandparent’s Breakfast is Tuesday, November 26th. Invitations are in the mail, and we look forward to welcoming grandparents from all over the country for this memorable event. The breakfast is a great opportunity for grandparents to enjoy their grandchildren in their daily setting and witness all the remarkable gifts that Pope John Paul II High School offers. You may be aware that the Catholic Schools Office is spearheading an external review by our accrediting agency Cognia, formerly known as AdvancED. Rebecca Hammel, Superintendent of Schools, is asking parents to participate in a survey on your perceptions about the Catholic characteristics of JPII and our community. Please watch for a separate email from me with the link to the survey. The survey closes on November 17th.

As we enter the busy pre-holiday season, encourage your students to stay focused, ask for help if they need it, and finish the semester strong.

Admissions process open for 2019-2020 school year

The Admissions Office is still accepting applications for 2019-2020. All current 8th graders and transfer students interested in pursuing admissions to JPII should begin the application process now. The first step is the online Pre-Application. Upon completion of the Pre-Application, a link to the Admissions Portal will populate on the last page which will take you to the Admissions Portal. A Checklist of items will be listed that will need to be completed for admission consideration. Please contact the Admissions Office with any questions, 615-590-6014.


Grandparent Breakfast, 11/26

Our annual Grandparent Breakfast is Tuesday, November 26th. Please send your grandparent names and addresses to Jo Lind Weaver to ensure an invitation is mailed. Each year addresses are updated. Even if your grandparent has attended in previous years, you still need to contact Mrs. Weaver for an invitation. If you have already sent your address, there is no need to do so again. Gala Dress Down Day, 12/4

It’s the most MAGICAL time of the year! It’s GALA TIME! Each year our JPII families kindly donate an item or gift card valued at $25.00 or more to the GALA AUCTION in return for a dress down day. Please turn in item(s) by Monday, December 2 at noon to Jo Lind Weaver, Director of Donor and Alumni Relations. ALL PARENTS and FRIENDS (21+) please mark your calendar and plan to attend our annual GALA 2020 at HUTTON HOTEL on Saturday, February 1st. This year’s event will be like none other . . . it will be MAGICAL!



Spring Musical Auditions, 11/11-11/13

Beauty & The Beast AUDITION Sign-ups are on the callboard outside Mr. Campbell’s office in the commons area. You must sign up for 1 day to be eligible for audition. Days are Nov. 11th / 12th / 13th at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium. There is a limit of 20 spots per day. Please prepare a short snippet (16 bars) of a karaoke musical theatre song of your choice. Show off your best. EVERYBODY CAN SING. If you have a conflict with ALL of these days, see Mr. Campbell. The musical dates are March 5th through 8th.


Baseball Hitting Camp, 11/28 & 11/29

The JPII Baseball Team will host a Thanksgiving Hitting Camp over Thanksgiving break on November 28 and 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pre-register by emailing chris.parker@jp2hs.org. Late registration is 8:30 a.m., November 29. Cost is $80 and includes a t-shirt. Instructors: Chris Parker, JPII Head Baseball Coach, Zander Wiel, former college WS winner with Vanderbilt, current player with Twins organization, JPII baseball coaching staff and current/former players. Camp will take place rain or shine.

Liturgical Schedule

Morning Mass is offered at 7:00 am on Monday and 7:15 am on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Confessions are available after school during the Vespers block and by appointment via fr.forsythe@jp2hs.org. Please visit the Liturgical Schedule for more details.


Nashville Dolphins swim team has volunteer opportunities to assist during swim practice for youth with special needs. Please contact megan@nashvilledolphins.orgfor more information, or check out this website: nashvilledolphins.org

Room in the Inn at St. Joseph’s is in need of innkeepers to stay overnight with guests on Sunday evenings. Interested young men and their fathers are able to stay overnight with the guests to earn 12 service hours. The volunteer shift is wrapped up by 6:30 Monday morning. We provide beds. We also need help with bed set up and serving dinner on Sunday afternoon from 4:00-7:00. Interested students should contact Hillary Combs at 615-310-4219.
