Knight Notes September 21, 2017
Dear JPII Community,
We are two weeks from the end of the first quarter (10/6) and fall break (10/9-10/13). You can expect to receive an email from Karen Brown over the weekend letting you know teacher comments are ready for your review. Please take time to read through the comments and speak to your student about any suggestions teachers have made that will help improve classroom performance. At this point students are aware of the tutorial schedule and there is no reason why they cannot take advantage of the extra help.
Next week is a full week with Homecoming activities including daily dress down, pep rally, the big game against McCallie, alumni events, a parochial student event, and the dance on Saturday night. We will also welcome hundreds of 8th graders for 8th grade visit days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I’d like to thank our faculty and staff in advance for their support as we enter this fun, but challenging week.
Our Homecoming Dance is designed to be a safe event for our students. All students are subject to a Breathalyzer test when they arrive. We’ve put this measure in place to support our parents and to give students a clear reason not to drink. We will also have Hendersonville Police Department on site as an extra safety measure. We ask parents to support administration and one another by keeping any after party alcohol free. Hosting parties where alcohol is available is contrary to the mission of our community and is illegal. If you have concerns, please let us know.
Monday we will have a guest speaker, Megan Almon from the Life Training Institute. Mrs. Almon’s presentation will focus on the Rite to Life and will equip students to defend the pro-life view. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Today we hosted over 150 colleges for our annual College Fair Day. Please ask your student to share their experience and any information they collected today. This is a great opportunity to begin the conversation, narrow decisions, and plan for the future. Thank you to the college counseling staff for organizing this amazing event for our students.
Sincerely in Christ,

Relay for Life, 9/30
Whether it be a relative, you, or a friend who has been diagnosed, every one of our families has been impacted by cancer in some way. JPII is teaming up with Father Ryan to support those who have been impacted by cancer through the Relay for Life. Our teams have expanded this year to allow us to create 2, a boys and a girls team, both of which are completely student-led. The boy’s team will be led by Andrew Synder and Miles Robinson, and the girl’s team will be led by Savannah Smith and Heidi Uhl. The Relay for Life is an event held at Father Ryan to help raise money for cancer, and we want you to participate or donate with us! The funds we raise and you donate helps fund important cancer research, supports cancer patient programs and services, and goes toward other important activities that help save lives from cancer. This year the Relay for Life will be held on September 30th at Father Ryan! Prior to the Relay for Life, the 2 teams will work diligently in asking for donations and planning for their booth at the event. At the event, multiple booths will be set up with individual fundraisers ranging from activities to products to buy and even crafts, and there will be activities and live music hosted by Father Ryan. This is not an actual Relay, but a day of fun surrounded by good people from around the diocese in support of a good cause. We would really appreciate it if you joined our team or donated to the cause!
