Knight Notes February 15, 2018
Dear JPII Community,
The Lenten season began yesterday with Ash Wednesday. People often approach Lent with seriousness, as it is common to reflect on our sins, contemplate sacrifice, and spend time in quiet and prayer. Yes, it is a time to examine our relationship with God, but I find that great happiness can come from this experience. The simple acts of prayer, penance, and service to others can truly help us set aside negative hindrances to find the simple joy that is the essence to a holy life. Over the next several weeks we will find opportunities to bring our students closer to God’s love and I invite you to find time at home to make room for Him by eliminating the distractions around you. My prayers are with all of you and I hope you experience the peace and delight of being part of our great community, as I do.
In recognition of Black History Month our Young Politicos Club will host a round table discussion next week during lunch. This group of students is the same group that I had the pleasure of marching with in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade. It is exciting to see their enthusiasm and effort in providing an opportunity for dialogue among our students on issues of race and tolerance in our world.
Winter athletics is wrapping up and our swim, wrestling, and dance teams all performed well in recent state, regional, and national events. We wish our remaining teams entering playoffs the best of luck. Our athletic program is experiencing great growth especially in Track and Field with our largest team ever. Spring sports will begin soon and we look forward to an exciting season.
Just a reminder that students have a four-day weekend beginning with a faculty in-service on Friday and President’s Day on Monday. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

Spain Interest Meeting, 2/27
Would you like your student to experience Spain? JPII is partnering with EF Tours for a trip to Barcelona & Madrid over Fall Break (October 6th – 13th, 2018). Please join me for an informational meeting on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:00 p.m. in the library. If you have questions in the meantime, contact me via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Class Registration for 2018-2019
Students will begin the process of registering for classes for the 2018-2019 academic year in the coming weeks. Our counseling team will meet with each student to discuss teacher recommendations for course levels and options for elective classes on the following dates:
Rising 12th: February 12 & 13 during History classes
Rising 11th: February 20 & 21 during Theology classes
Rising 10th: February 26 & 27 during English classes
Parents and students with questions about teacher recommendations are encouraged to consult the current teacher in the subject area.
For the new rising freshman class, we will hold a New Student Orientation Meeting on Tuesday, March 6th at 6:00 p.m. Courses and information particular to the curriculum will be explained and parents will have an opportunity to direct questions to department chairs.
Signup for classes will be based on enrollment contract return date beginning March 7th through March 10th.

Re-Enrollment Contracts Due 2/1
2018-2019 enrollment packets were mailed on December 20th. All re-enrollment contracts were due on February 1st with the annual fee. Contact the business office with questions at firstname.lastname@example.org
Financial Aid Deadline, 2/1
Families planning to apply for need-based financial aid must complete the online application by February 1st. Only families who are current on tuition payments and have signed enrollment contracts will be considered for financial aid. For more information visit our Financial Aid webpage.
Admissions process open for 2018-2019 school year
The Admissions Office is excited to present a NEW Pre-Application and Admissions Portal for 2018-2019. All current 8th graders interested in pursuing admissions to JPII should begin the application process now. The first step is the online Pre-Application. Upon completion of the Pre-Application, a link to the Admissions Portal will populate on the last page which will take you to the Admissions Portal. A Checklist of items will be listed that will need to be completed for admission consideration. Please contact the Admissions Office with any questions, 615-590-6014.
Prospective parents, please join us for lunch with Headmaster Mike Deely, our administrative staff, department chairs, and coaches. After lunch, take a tour of our state-of-the-art facilities, visit with our students and faculty, and get a glimpse into an actual day at JPII!

KAC Golf Tournament, 4/20/18
SIGN UP for the annual KAC Golf Tournament on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Twelve Stones Golf Club. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a Shotgun Start at 9:00 a.m. Admissions is $125 per player. Register by March 1st and your fourth player is free. All proceeds support athletic facility upgrades, equipment, and enhancements to JPII’s athletic program. One Pretty Dress, 2/24
Student organizers for One Pretty Dress are now accepting prom dresses, shoes, accessories, and gift cards for their event on Saturday, February 24th at JPII. One Pretty Dress is a nonprofit group at JPII that collects gently used prom attire such as dresses, shoes, and more for girls who typically could not afford the expense of prom. Girls from the area are invited to JPII to select a dress and accessories at no cost to them. For more information email email@example.com.

Breakthrough Basketball Camp, 4/20-4/22
