Knight Notes November 16, 2017

Dear JPII Community,

With the holidays fast approaching and the pressure of the end of the semester upon us, this time of year brings a flurry of activities. Between now and Christmas break, we have a number of events we’d like to remind you of beginning with the fall production of “You Can’t Take It With You” this weekend. You have three opportunities to come out and watch our students performshow times. Make sure you check out the school calendar for other upcoming Christmas performances.

Please make a note that on this coming Monday, November 20th the day begins at 7:55 a.m. We will not have a late start on Monday to accommodate for the Grandparent’s Breakfast on Tuesday, November 21st. Once again we are expecting a record number of grandparents to join us for this special day and we look forward to welcoming them on campus. As a reminder, we will close all offices Wednesday through Friday for Thanksgiving.

This will be the last Knight Notes before we leave for Thanksgiving Break next Tuesday. As I step back and reflect on the blessings here at JPII, I am first thankful for our faculty and staff and the wonderful care they give our students. We are here to educate our students and help them learn all they can about the universe God created and how they can use their gifts to help Him develop a world that serves all His people. I thank our faculty for sharing their passion for their subjects, our coaches for the love of their sport, and our staff for providing a positive view of our world that helps motivate and excite our students. Next, I thank our parents who bring us wonderful students and who partner with us in all that we do at JPII. Your constant support of the school, your high expectations for your children, and your willingness to devote your time, treasure, and talent make us successful. Parenting is the most difficult job we will undertake and we thank you for your commitment and dedication to your children. Finally, to our students and alumni, our gift is to know you, see your potential and help you find your way. We love to see all the amazing things our alumni have accomplished and we look forward to watching our current students’ futures unfold. High school is not easy, but worth the challenges because of the love we have for our students and the purpose they bring to our lives as educators and parents. May God continue to bless all of you. I wish you safe travels and a Happy Thanksgiving.

Salvation Army Angel Tree, 12/7 

Mrs. Betty Mayberry is once again coordinating the Salvation Army Angel Tree project for JPII  and we have adopted 40 Angles. Please email betty.mayberry@jp2hs.org if you would like to adopt an Angel. Angel wishes and needs will be listed on an Angel tag. You are asked to purchase three to five NEW gifts per Angel. Gift cards and certificates are appropriate. Do not include food, cash, or notes. All gifts should be UNWRAPPED, placed inside a large garbage bag with the Angel’s name and the Angel tag attached, and delivered to the front office or room 008 by December 7th. Admissions process now open for 2018-2019 school year

The Admissions Office is excited to present a NEW Pre-Application and Admissions Portal for 2018-2019. All current 8th graders interested in pursuing admissions to JPII should begin the application process now. The first step is the online Pre-Application. Upon completion of the Pre-Application, a link to the Admissions Portal will populate on the last page which will take you to the Admissions Portal. A Checklist of items will be listed that will need to be completed for admission consideration. Please contact the Admissions Office with any questions, 615-590-6014. 

Taste and See Events 

Prospective parents, please join us for lunch with Headmaster Mike Deely, our administrative staff, department chairs, and coaches.  After lunch, take a tour of our state-of-the-art facilities, visit with our students and faculty, and get a glimpse into an actual day at JPII!

Upcoming Dance Competitions

The Knight Stars will compete in the TSSAA State Championship at MTSU at the Smoky Mountain Championship the weekend of December 1st – 3rd. Go Knights! Contact Mrs. Delmotte with questions. 


Knights Catholic Wrestling Registration NOW

Knights Catholic Wrestling is a new wrestling program for children grades Kindergarten through 4th beginning in November. Practices will take place at JPII. Enrollment is now open. Interested parents can contact Jason Allman 615-260-8589 or jason.allman@kofc.org

JPII Recycling

Students in need of service hours, please consider helping out here at JPII by beautifying our campus and helping with our recycling efforts. Students can gain service hours multiple times per week by collecting recycling around the building for collection. “Revelation and the Church”, 12/6

All are invited to “Revelation and the Church”, a presentation by Dr. Brad Peper at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6th at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church following the 6:15 p.m. Mass.

Father Greg Boyle speaking engagement, 1/28/18

Father Greg Boyle, the author of the New York Times Bestselling book “Tattoos on the Heart”, will be speaking at St. Henry Catholic Church at 7 pm on January 28th.  Father Greg, who is a Jesuit Priest, has been working to bring rival gang members in the Los Angeles area together through Homeboy Industries which is the larges gang intervention, re-hab and re-entry program in the United States.  The event is open to the public.  Anyone can obtain a ticket through Eventbrite at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-power-of-boundless-compassion-an-evening-with-father-greg-boyle-tickets-38945758813?aff=es2. The tickets are free with a suggested donation of $20 to defray the cost of the event.  Any proceeds collected above the cost of the event will go to Homeboy Industries.

BF Meyers in Goodlettsville seeks student workers

BF Meyers is hiring several male students to work after school until 5:30 p.m. and possibly occasional Saturdays. Hours are flexible. Requirements include light to heavy lifting of furniture, loading/unloading freight, opening boxes, and some assembly. Students will be trained in proper lifting techniques.
