Knight Notes April 26, 2017

Dear JPII Community,

Our students enjoyed a wonderful Prom and an afternoon of exciting House Games last week. I’d like to thank the student leaders, teachers, staff, and in particular, Ms. Morris for coordinating these events. We will continue our spring festivities on Thursday as our seniors celebrate Surf’s Up Day and our juniors experience a rite of passage at Junior Ring Mass.

Our spring athletic teams are celebrating Senior Night this week. We congratulate our student-athletes and their parents for a great season. Their commitment to their sport and more importantly to their teammates over the last four years is highly commendable. We also recognize that parents are instrumental in the success of their student-athlete by teaching them that loyalty and teamwork are important virtues to learn in high school.

I extend my gratitude to our parents and community supporters for their help with the KAC Golf Tournament and the Annual Fund Phone-a-thon. KAC hosted golf enthusiasts at Fairvue Plantation to raise money for our athletic program. Tournament Chair, Susan Schumacher, KAC board members, JPII staff, and John Dempsey, A.D. worked very hard to make this a successful event. Also in fundraising, I’m happy to report that we are on target to meet our Fund For Excellence goal this year through our final fundraising event, the Phone-a-thon. In an effort to increase participation the event is designed as a House competition to raise the most in pledges/gifts. In addition, our alumni have set a goal to collect $15,000 for our 15-year anniversary. Please help your House and our school by making a pledge to the FFE. Thanks to Michelle Barber, Jo Lind Weaver, and Jordan MacConnell for organizing this event.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend our Arts in the Round this Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Visitors will enjoy amazing displays of our best student artwork and great music from our choirs and musicians.

Our AP Exams kick-off Monday and will take place over the next two weeks. We have a record number of students testing and many who are taking more than one exam. This marks the end of their yearlong commitment and they have worked very hard to get to this point. We applaud them for their accomplishments, wish them the best, and thank their dedicated teachers for getting them to this point.

Sincerely,

Mike Deely
