Knight Notes October 19, 2017
Dear JPII Community,
Welcome back from Fall Break. I hope you are rested and enjoyed some quality time with your family. This week is Pope Week, a time when we honor our namesake, Saint Pope John Paul II. We kicked off Pope Week with a presentation delivered on Monday by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School, as part of JPII’s Distinguished Lecturer Series. Dr. Levine’s presentation, “Agreeing to Disagree: How Jews and Christians Read Scripture” was particularly fitting as Saint Pope John Paul II’s ministry of reconciliation between Christians and Jews was of priority during his papacy. We will continue honoring our patron saint during Mass on Thursday and finish the week with House Games. Saint Pope John Paul II has been an inspiration to our community and his passion for God, education, the arts, and athletics are the pillars of our school. May he always watch over our school and community with joy.
As mentioned, House Games will take place on Friday afternoon. As a reminder, we do not release students early to excuse them from House Games. Students tend to ask parents to sign them out early, but we ask that you support us and remind your student that House Games are a part of our community life, just as Mass, assemblies, and rallies. We expect students to attend.
Winter dress code began Monday and gentlemen are wearing their House ties. On Fridays students may wear spirit dress. Options include a student’s team jersey or t-shirt related his/her team, a club, or a JPII event. Jeans are permitted, but cannot be torn or have holes. Students who choose to opt out of spirit dress must wear their regular school uniform. As always, JPII outer wear must be approved by the school and or sold in the Armory.
On Wednesday, October 25th all underclassmen will take part in standardized testing (PSAT/NMSQT and Aspire), seniors will be on retreat, and we will dismiss at 12:00 p.m. for Parent Teacher Conferences. All buses will leave at 12:45 p.m. You can visit instructions for conference sign-ups and more information.
Thank you for your support of JPII.
Sincerely in Christ,
