About JPII

Knight Notes January 10, 2018

Dear JPII Community,

As we approach Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I recall one of my favorite quotes from Dr. King, “Intelligence plus character  – that is the true goal of education.” We serve students from many backgrounds at JPII and each has their own story and each family has their own intentions for sending their child to our fine school. One of the great qualities of Dr. King was his ability to discover the things that help unite us. I believe JPII fits into his vision, in that we are not just focused on educating the mind, but the heart and soul as well. Our students are talented and smart, no question. However, I also witness on a daily basis their goodness, their ability to live by ethics and personal standards, and more importantly, I see them seeking holiness. We celebrate the legacy of Dr. King, the civil rights movement, and the common American theme of seeking a better life for all by remembering his words. Let every day be a day we live by his words and let us continue to create a community that elevates intelligence on the shoulders of character.

The Coming Home dance was a success with a great turnout despite the cold. I thank our faculty and staff for hosting the event and I appreciate our parent support in making sure it was a fun but safe weekend. Our bowling team heads to state next week and I wish Coaches Reding and Zimmerman and the amazing team the best of luck. JPII is fortunate to have several of the top bowlers in the state and we look forward to seeing them give it their all next week. Finally, we are aware of potential snow accumulation on Friday. We will wait to see how the forecast evolves before we make any decision regarding the schedule.

Sincerely in Christ,

Mike Deely
