Knight Notes February 22, 2017
Dear JPII Community,
I hope you had a restful President’s Day weekend. Last week we experienced our own presidential election process as students voted for their 2017-2018 class leaders. We had a large number of wonderful candidates, which is a sign of how well our students are engaged in school life. I’m happy to announce that William Pacwa was elected President and Emma Grace Baxter was elected Vice President. We wish them the best in their new roles.
Congratulations to our own Ms. Karen Phillips, Assistant Head of School, Dean of Studies, and History Teacher who recently received the “Christ the Teacher” award from the Diocese of Nashville. Ms. Phillips was selected by a committee of diocesan teachers for her commitment to Catholic education, the Diocese of Nashville, and of course her students as being the best example of Christ’s love to all. This comes as no surprise as Ms. Phillips is the perfect recipient of this honor. She has been the heart and soul of JPII since day one and we thank her for her dedication, love, and service.
Today marks the first meeting of the third trimester of Innov8. Our internship opportunities continue to grow and I offer my heartfelt gratitude to all of the professionals who have opened their doors to our students to share their expertise and experience. We expect continued growth in the program and we encourage students to talk to their counselors about Innov8 choices for next year. Students are also welcome to approach Mrs. Jennifer Dye, Director of Innovation with their ideas to help design the future of the program.
As spring nears, please remember to check out Camp JPII. Registration is open and classes are filling fast so don’t hesitate to check out the brochure and register your children for a camp. There are over 30 camps to choose from for ages 5 to 18 ranging from academics, athletics, arts, and service. Summer is a great time to get your younger children familiar with our campus and faculty.

ACADEMICS: Course Sign-up Process for 2017-2018
The Sign UP process by which students will register for 2017-2018 classes is underway. Visit this LINK for a timeline of events that are part of the advising and information process that assists students in choosing appropriate courses. KAC Golf Tournament, 4/24
Spring is around the corner and so is the KAC Golf Tournament! Dust off your clubs and start practicing for JPII’s annual golf tournament sponsored by the Knight Athletic Club at Fairvue Plantation in Gallatin on Monday, April 24th. Registration and a Shotgun Start at 1:00 p.m. Admissions is $125 per player. All proceeds are used to support athletic facility upgrades, equipment, and enhancements to JPII’s athletic program. Camp JPII 2017
Our summer camp program, Camp JPII 2017, is now open for registration! Camp JPII offers summer fun for kids age 5-18 the weeks of June 5-9th, June 12-16th, June 19-23rd, and June 26-30th. Camps run Monday-Friday in two sessions: 9:00 a.m. – noon and 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Before care, after care, and meal plans are also available as well as the Pick Four Discount for those who sign up for four half-day camps.
New camps this year include Dance Camp, Track Camp, several art camps including Clay Creations, Making the Ordinary Extraordinary, and DIY Design Painting, Rock and Roll History, Model United Nations and Debating, and Ready…Set….Go Algebra. With 40 camps to choose from, there is something available for every age and every interest!

AP Art Presentations, 3/14 – 3/17
Faculty, students, parents, and the community are invited to listen to our AP artists as they present and talk about their AP artwork March 14-17 during the one hour lunch period. Junior Ring Mass, 4/27
Junior parents, you are invited to join us for the Junior Ring Mass, Thursday April 27th at 10:15am. Please plan to arrive by 10:00 a.m. to get a seat. Immediately following Mass there is an opportunity to take pictures in the courtyard, and you are then encouraged to take your student out to lunch, as per JPII tradition. Drone Flight Program for Students
JPII is launching its inaugural Drone Flight Program. Financial Aid Application Process opened December 1st
If your family is interested in applying for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year, you may begin your online application, please visit FACTS to access the application. As a reminder, families must apply every year for financial aid. For more information visit the following links: THE PROCESS, FAQ, REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION. Please make note: Deadline to apply is February 21, 2017. Applicants completing the financial aid process by February 21st will be considered for an award and notified on March 17, 2017. Applications completed after February 21, 2017 are not guaranteed consideration. An enrollment contract and $300 non-refundable registration fee must be submitted to the Business Office and families must be current on tuition payments to be considered. Sumner Rugby Football Club, 2/25
Interested in Ruby? JPII students have been part of the Sumner Rugby program for years and two students have gone on to play college rugby. Check out the Sumner REC “All Blacks” take on the Blackman HS Blaze on Saturday, February 25th at noon at North Creek Park in Goodlettsville.
