Knight Notes December 12, 2018

Dear JPII Community,

The Christmas break is just around the corner and you can feel the anticipation of teachers, staff, and students as they race to finish the semester. As we are in the midst of semester exams, I encourage students to study hard, get plenty of rest, and finish the semester strong. Below is the remaining schedule for 2018.

  • Thursday, December 13th, English Exam 8:00-11:00 a.m. Dismissal at 11:15 a.m. All buses will depart at 11:30 a.m.
  • Friday, December 14th, Math Exam 8:00-11:00 a.m. with an hour lunch break and Theology Exam 12:00-2:00 p.m. Dismissal at 2:00 p.m. All buses will depart at 2:30 p.m.
  • Monday, December 17th (no late start), Science Exam 8:00-11:00 a.m. with an hour lunch break and Social Studies Exam 12:00-3:00 p.m. All buses will depart at 3:40 p.m.
  • Tuesday, December 18th, Elective/Make-up Exams, 8:00-11:00 a.m. Students who do not have an elective exam or exam(s) to make up are excused on December 18th.

Offices will be closed Wednesday, December 19th through Wednesday, January 2nd. School resumes January 3rd at 7:55 a.m.

The admissions office will be sending out the first acceptance letters for the Class of 2023. Congratulations to our newest Knights, who promise to be an amazing class.

We are undergoing a phone system upgrade over the break, which may cause interruption in service. Therefore, if you need to leave us a message, please communicate via email. Our new system will be in place when school resumes January 3rd.

On behalf of our faculty and staff, I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and all of God’s blessings in the New Year. This year has been great for us as a community and I offer my sincere gratitude for your support. Have a wonderful break and safe travels for those visiting family far away. We look forward to seeing you in January for a great second half of the school year.

PAC Armory Christmas Extravaganza Event, 12/14 and 12/15

Need JPII spirit wear for Christmas gifts? Join us in the Armory on Friday, December 14th from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for an Extravaganza Event! We have loads of new merchandise for you to choose from. We hope to see you there!




All JPII applicants currently in the eighth grade are required to take the JPII placement test as part of the admissions process. Apply today at www.jp2hs.org and scheduled a placement test date. Admissions process open for 2019-2020 school year

The Admissions Office opens Admissions Portal for 2019-2020. All current 8th graders and transfer students interested in pursuing admissions to JPII should begin the application process now. The first step is the online Pre-Application. Upon completion of the Pre-Application, a link to the Admissions Portal will populate on the last page which will take you to the Admissions Portal. A Checklist of items will be listed that will need to be completed for admission consideration. Please contact the Admissions Office with any questions, 615-590-6014. 



JPII Gala, 2/2/2019

Mark your calendar for the annual JPII Gala on February 2, 2019 at the Hutton Hotel in Nashville. If you are interested in helping plan our Gala, please contact Jo Lind Weaver, jolind.weaver@jp2hs.org. Regular planning meetings are held on campus. 





JPII Annual Alumni Basketball Game, 12/19

Hockey 2018-2019

The Hockey Team invites everyone to come out and watch them compete on the ice this season. For the schedule, visit JPII HOCKEY. 

Free Football Mini-Camp Series, January 6, 13, 20

The camp is FREE and open to all 6th-8th graders. It will be led by former NFL and Vanderbilt Lineman and current JPII Head Football Coach Justin Geisinger and runs from  3-5 p.m. at JPII. Registration is at 2:30 p.m., Schedule: Linemen Camp, OL/DL/TE (Jan. 6); Offensive Skill, QB/WR/RB (Jan. 13); Defensive Skill, LB/DB (Jan. 20). This is a non-contact camp. Players require athletic wear with cleats; bring tennis shoes in the event of poor weather. Register student’s name, position, school, and grade level: brian.sneed@jp2hs.org.

  • The 2017-18 Yearbook (last school year) is set for delivery at the end of next week.
  • There are limited extra copies available.  If you did not order a yearbook last year, please send a check for $100 (payable to JPII) to Mrs. Smith, ASAP.

France Trip Spring Break 2020 Info Meeting, 12/13

We are excited to announce that the international trip for the  2019- 2020 academic year will be to France, including Paris, Brittany and Normandy. All interested families are invited to attend an informational meeting on Thursday, December 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the Puryear Library. Contact Alyson Thomas with questions, alyson.thomas@jp2hs.org.

Ecuador Immersion Applications Available

This language and cultural immersion will take place over the course of two weeks in Quito, Ecuador, and will give students of any Spanish level the opportunity to improve their fluency. Afternoon Spanish study will be complimented by morning and evening activities including: sampling traditional Ecuadorian foods, touring Quito’s historic district, shopping in traditional indigenous markets, hiking local mountains, visiting an Ecuadorian high school, salsa and merengue dance lessons, and more. Students will live in a homestay with warm, hospitable, and experienced Ecuadorian families, providing the student a daily opportunity to practice their Spanish and to see everyday life in this exciting South American country. Students will also travel to Mindo, a peaceful town known for its beautiful natural landscape and biodiversity, where they will hike to a gorgeous waterfall, tube down a mountain river, visit a small-business owner’s chocolate factory, and learn about the changing environmental conditions in Ecuador. 

Further information:

  • Approximate Dates: Tuesday, May 28 – Tuesday, June 11 (contingent on best airfare deals)
  • Approximate Cost: $2500 – $2800 (assuming 12 students; cost may be slightly higher or lower based on airfare)
  • Open to students in the classes of ’20, ’21, ’22.
  • Cost Includes:
  • 4 hours of 1-1 daily language instruction with a skilled native teacher (40 hours total)
  • Airfare and all other transportation within Ecuador
  • All Food and Housing
  • All Activities (dance lessons, cooking cuey, hiking, Teleferico [gondola], tubing, museum visits, historical church tours, and more)
  • Weekend travel and activities
  • Applications: Available by September 14, and due by Friday, September 28.
